Our latest feature mum, Danielle Vella, talks about starting up her dream business with a 2 year old and a newborn!
Tell us a little about yourself?
I’m a Melbourne mum of two gorgeous girls, Aria who is 2 and a half and Scarlett who is 4 months old. I’m also a new business owner!
I have recently launched a line of maternity active wear leggings TWO8ZERO. Not only great for during your pregnancy but I have been living in mine postpartum.
Circa back to 2013, I was pregnant with Aria and struggling to find active wear leggings that was comfortable over my growing bump and stylish. That’s when the idea first popped into my head! Fast forward to 2015, pregnant with Scarlett and my husband telling me to go for it, I started to make that dream a reality. Crazily enough I launched TWO8ZERO in 2016 with a newborn and toddler! Its been a juggle and a lot of stress but it has all come to life.
What is your strategy for family/work/life balance?
I feel like I’m starting to get the hang of this whole work from home mum of two thing, although can we ever get it all balanced?
In our daily life, I’m big on routine, even though some days it does not go to plan. The girls don’t go to any kind of care and I have limited help, so to have the week planned, right down to meals, works best or us. I find the days much easier, the girls thrive on it and I feel more organised with a routine in place.
I’ve recently become very cautious of the amount of time I spend on my phone in front of the girls, particularly Aria. We use our mobiles for everything these days! I try to catchup on my Instagram accounts/emails first thing in the morning before breakfast or in the evening after the girls are in bed. Occasionally I will have a social media free day, which are the best! Most of my work I try to do whilst Aria is having her day nap and Scarlett is at that age where she will happily sit in her bouncer. With the age Aria is now I try to involve her in “helping mummy work”. She loves helping me set up to take photos, pack orders and handing in the parcels to the man at the Post Office. I make sure we get out of the house everyday for a walk and you can always find us at a park.
For me I will admit taking time out just for me is one thing I don’t do enough, particularly since having Scarlett. It is something I must work on.
Weekends is all about time as a family, Sunday breakfasts and hanging out at the park. In saying all that as TWO8ZERO grows I’m sure I will have to rebalance everything!
How did you discover Baby Bistro and how does Baby Bistro make life a little easier for you?
I first discovered Baby Bistro through the wonderful world of Instagram. Baby Bistro is an absolute life saver on those crazy busy days where I have had no time to prep dinner. I’m not big on takeaway meals so it’s always handy to have some meals in the freezer. The baby Bistro Big Eats has been fabulous for those lunchtime meals. I’m pretty sure Aria is over the sandwiches I make haha!!
What is your baby’s favourite Baby Bistro and/or Big Eats meal?
Aria’s favourite Baby Bistro Meal is Macaroni and Cheese. Recently we have tried Big Eats with the Chicken Strips being a winner!
“No-one told me it would be like this!” Tell us about one of ‘those moments’ since becoming a mum!
Those tantrums! Where do they come from? They just appear overnight! A toddler can go from one extreme to another in a matter of seconds. You’ve got to love the ones that come when you are out in a public place, you just want to hide! Oh and the answering back, yes a two year old that answers you back! But the happy moments always outweigh the not so good ones.
Please share one top tip for new mums – your own, or the best tip you’ve ever received.
Always listen to your intuition. Take each day as it comes and remember what works for someone else may not work for you and your baby.
What do you love best about being a mum?
What is not to love. I love everything. But most of all the unconditional love, their sweet hugs and those baby smiles first thing in the morning. Oh and the cute little bond my girls are developing is super sweet!
